It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Captain Larry E. Lusk, after a courageous lengthy hospital stay Larry passed away on January 10, 2013. He will be missed deeply by his sons Shane & Tom & daughter in-law Debbie, his grandchildren, Ciara, Thomas & Dayton and great grandson Diesel. Larry was married for 50 years to a wonderful woman named Marie; their love for one another was celebrated everyday as they joyously went through the journey of life together. Larry and Marie truly believed in making every moment count and made sure they laughed often and shared their good times with family and friends. Larry was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for over 50 years and truly enjoyed his time and friends there.
Larry was raised in Vancouver, B.C. and when he became a young man he decided to enlist in the army but had to misrepresent his age in order to be accepted. Larry was wounded in action and survived the 2nd world war; he belonged to the Canadian Scottish Regiment and was in on the first wave on D-Day on the beaches of Normandy. Larry will always be a hero to his children, grandchildren and all those who knew him. He makes us all so very proud to wear a poppy on Remembrance Day and on the anniversary of D-Day you will find Larry on the History Channel revealing a very candid side of himself during a taped interview that tugs at your heart strings. After the war Larry went on to become a Master Mariner and was a Captain on deep sea tugs, he retired in 1989 from Rivtow Straits after 40 years of service in a career he genuinely loved.
Larry had a huge heart; he loved deeply, laughed his famous laugh frequently, he was generous and full of honour & integrity. You were an exceptionally lucky person if you could say that Larry was your father, grandfather, friend or colleague. Dad and Gumpy we love you and will miss you immensely but we will celebrate your memories every day until we meet again. Respectfully no service by request.
