ROBINSON, Harold Roland

ROBINSON, Harold Roland

“Robbie”

Position: Captain
Affiliation: Island Tug, Seaspan, Sooke Towing

September 3, 1928 – October 6, 2026

Captain Harold Roland Robinson, affectionately known as Robbie, passed away on October 6, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of memories, family, friendships, and a lasting legacy in the Victoria community he called home.

Born and raised in Victoria, Robbie was the son of Roland and Audrey Robinson and grew up alongside his sister, Babs (Hugh). He was a hardworking mariner who began his career with Island Tug and Barge and Seaspan before establishing his own company, Sooke Towing. Through determination and a strong work ethic, he built a life and career of which he could be proud.

One of the most important chapters of Robbie’s life began in the summer of 1952, when he met June, the woman who would become his beloved wife. June captured the beginning of their love story in her journal:

“The beautiful beginning of our story started on June 20th, 1952, a Friday evening when we had our first date. The following night we went on a date to a dance at Crystal Gardens with friends. By this time we felt as though we had known each other a long time. The popular songs played were, ‘Because of You’ and ‘I’m Yours.’”

Robbie proposed to June that August, and they were married on October 10, 1952. Their love story became the foundation of a life together, filled with family, shared experiences, and countless memories.

Together, Robbie and June raised their four children in their family home, affectionately known as “the mansion.” The home became a special gathering place and a backdrop to the family’s life together.

Robbie was a man of strong character and determination. Although he could be known for his hard exterior, those who knew him well understood the kindness, thoughtfulness, and fairness beneath it. He worked hard, cared in his own way, and leaves behind a legacy shaped by those qualities.

Beyond his work and family, Robbie loved the outdoors. Hunting, fishing, and camping were among his favourite pastimes. Dogs were also a constant and much-loved part of his life. Among them, Prince, his German Shorthaired Pointer, held a special place. Robbie and Prince spent many hours together walking daily around the Gorge, a familiar sight to those who knew the area.

Robbie was a valued member of the Victoria community and had meaningful connections with Trinity Presbyterian Church, the Shriners, and the Masons.

Robbie was predeceased by his beloved wife, June, and his children, Wayne and Lauren. He will be lovingly remembered by his daughters, Kathleen and Suzy Robinson; his granddaughter, Kate (Ryan); his grandson, Kael; and great-granddaughter Abigail.

The family extends its warm and heartfelt thanks to the staff and friends at Amica on the Gorge for the care, kindness, and sense of community they provided Robbie over the last three years. Their support and companionship have been deeply appreciated.

Robbie lived a full life, built through hard work, devotion to family, and a deep connection to his community and the outdoors. His story is forever intertwined with June’s, and the memories they created together will continue to live on through their family.

He will be remembered with love, respect, and gratitude by all who knew him.
